Maria José Ponte

The Train Ride

With her armour on

She turns, says goodbye

“See you soon”

Her hair coiffed, bouffant around her face

Head scarf on

All covering most of her face

This too, the armour

To hide

Protect what lies within

The boots, the gloves, the bag

All carefully placed

All shouting “keep away!”

“I am strong, powerful!”

She needs to be

As she climbs on the train

She is prepared for all

Wearing her armour.
